When a woven heart becomes part of life’s most magical moments

One of the most touching stories we’ve ever experienced at Ugly Duckli began with snowflakes, secrets, and love — all the way from Texas, USA.

He had it all planned.
His fiancée had once been an exchange student at DTU in Denmark, so when he decided to propose, he wanted the moment to feel deeply Danish — and unforgettable.

Without her knowing, he flew in her best friend from the States to be part of the big surprise. Then, on a rare snowy winter day, he brought his soon-to-be fiancée to Fredensborg Palace — the fairytale setting often used by the Danish royal family.

Hidden behind a bush, a professional photographer waited.
Just as he asked the question, her best friend jumped out — tears, laughter and hugs followed.
And yes — she said YES! 💍❄️

Woven hearts, handmade memories

Later that same day, they came to Ugly Duckli in Frederiksberg to weave their very first Danish paper hearts together.
Side by side, they created their own tradition.
Two hearts, folded gently in red and gold, as a symbol of a brand new chapter.

That evening, they celebrated with a romantic dinner at NOMA — the world’s most legendary restaurant.
From castle to craft, from paper to plate — Copenhagen had gifted them a day they’d never forget.
