What to expect during your visit
You will be welcomed into my home and guided step by step. No experience is needed.
Step into a Danish tradition and learn how to weave classic paper hearts in a warm and creative setting.
The experience takes place in my private home in Frederiksberg, where guests gather around the table with paper, scissors, stories, and a touch of Danish “hygge”.
You will hear the story behind the paper heart, including its connection to the Danish fairytale author Hans Christian Andersen, who created one of the first known woven hearts in the 1860s as a small, personal gift for a young girl named Mathilde.
The name Ugly Duckli is inspired by Andersen’s fairytale The Ugly Duckling, and reflects my own journey of sharing this Danish tradition with guests from around the world for more than 25 years.
You will create your own handmade pieces to take home.
At the end of the experience, you will receive a small, beautifully prepared take-home weaving kit, so you can continue the tradition or share it with friends and family.
Everything is prepared for you in advance, including materials, tools and a calm setting, so you can simply arrive, relax, and enjoy the experience.

More than just paper and glue
It may sound simple – weaving paper hearts – but something special always happens. Strangers meet, and often leave as friends. Around the table, conversations unfold naturally, and you can ask anything – about Denmark, Copenhagen, or life here – and I will share openly and honestly. Having lived abroad for 18 years, I know what it feels like to arrive in a new culture, and this is a space where you are welcome to be curious, relaxed, and truly present. You will also meet Felix, my small, happy, fluffy companion (and allergy-friendly). In the middle of all the world’s noise, this becomes a moment of calm, connection and joy.
"It felt like stepping into a Danish Christmas calendar – calm, cozy, and truly magical. Rikke is the most wonderful host, and I left with beautiful paper hearts and warm memories."
– Julie, visitor from Aarhus

Want to discover the story behind Danish paper hearts?
These small woven hearts carry a surprisingly rich story, from Danish homes to international fascination.
I even had the pleasure of teaching BBC host Gregg Wallace how to weave one.
Looking for something truly special for your group or event?
I also offer talks and personal appearances for companies, international guests and curated gatherings.
As the licensed TEDx organizer behind TEDxFrederiksberg, I curate and host talks together with a dedicated volunteer team, experience you can benefit from in your own event.

A quiet, park-like courtyard in Frederiksberg, hidden away from the city
A private moment in a Danish home
This is not a typical workshop.
It is a quiet, personal experience, shared around a table in my home in Frederiksberg.
Together, we slow down, create something by hand, and step into a small piece of Danish culture, with stories, warmth and a touch of hygge.
If this feels like something for you, I would love to welcome you. Dates fill up quickly, especially in summer.
