A warm welcome into my home
I welcome you personally into my home in Frederiksberg. Each guest has a prepared place at the table with the materials, templates and tools needed for the experience. Coffee, tea, still water and a small selection of Danish treats and snacks are served during your visit.
The story behind the Danish paper heart
As we work, I share the story of the woven paper heart and its special connection to the Danish fairytale author Hans Christian Andersen. In the 1860s, he created one of the earliest known woven hearts as a small personal gift for a young girl named Mathilde.
The name Ugly Duckli is inspired by Andersen’s fairytale The Ugly Duckling and by my own journey of sharing this beautiful Danish tradition with people from around the world.
Create at your own pace
I guide every guest step by step and adapt the experience to the ages, interests and pace of your group. Children and adults can create together, and everyone leaves with the paper hearts they have made by hand.
Meaningful keepsakes from Copenhagen
Alongside the paper hearts you create, each guest receives carefully selected Ugly Duckli design keepsakes during the experience.
Each guest also receives an individually prepared gift bag containing a Danish-made Ugly Duckli weaving kit and a blank Ugly Duckli greeting card with envelope. Every bag is beautifully finished with an elegant red ribbon, ready to keep or give to someone special.
A beautifully prepared gift bag awaits every guest.

More than a creative activity
Paper hearts may sound simple, but something special happens around the table. Hands become busy, conversation slows down, and there is time to be curious about Denmark, Copenhagen and everyday life here.
Having lived abroad for 18 years, I know the difference between simply visiting a country and feeling genuinely welcomed into its culture. My hope is that you leave with beautiful hearts, new stories and a warm memory of your time in Copenhagen.
Felix, my small, happy and allergy-friendly dog, can join us if you enjoy dogs. He waits in another room while I welcome you and may greet you with a little enthusiasm before quickly settling down. If anyone in your group prefers a dog-free visit, he will remain comfortably in a separate room throughout the experience.
“It felt like stepping into a Danish Christmas calendar: calm, cozy and truly magical. Rikke is the most wonderful host, and I left with beautiful paper hearts and warm memories.”
